Founded in 1976, the British Meditation Society (BMS) has a storied history of teaching meditation techniques across the United Kingdom. BMS has revitalised its operations following a younger generation learning to meditate and continues to offer profound meditation practices to a growing community of practitioners. BMS forms part of a worldwide network of meditation societies known as the International Foundation for Spiritual Unfoldment (IFSU), a foundation founded by Gururaj Ananda Yogi. Gururaj’s methodologies bring together meditation techniques that form the Preparatory Technique Course which is designed to promote deep spiritual growth and personal peace.
The IFSU Emblem of Light was Designed by Gururaj Ananda to represent that his teachings are for everyone. It represents the symbols of all the worlds various religions as well as people who simply seek spiritual growth or have no religion. All religious paths led to the same goal.
The divine light within. Which the flame represents.
The nine discs rest on five parallel golden cords with four spaces. This represents musical cords.
Gururaj believed all religions should respect each other and live together in harmony. Various religious teachings may be different but all lead to the same goal, the divine light within.

If you wish to learn to meditate the first thing you have to do is be committed to meditating daily for 20 minutes ideally twice a day. The spiritual journey of self discovery as you transcend layers within the mind is a lot easier with someone who has walked the path and can guide you through. We have teachers all over the country from Scotland to Cornwell who mentor people by teaching a ten step meditation course. The Meditation techniques taught are Mantra (expands the mind) and Tratak (contrats the mind) meditation. The spiritual practices taught are Pranayama (breath work) Gurushakti (linking into divine energy) and Chanting (helps neutralise negative thoughts).
Once the course is complete there are advanced meditation techniques that can be learnt.
It is like the little frog in the well who thought that was the whole world until a friend of his came along and took him to the ocean and said, ‘ Oh, look at the vastness of the ocean’. So we are like little frogs in the little well. Being in that little well we are unwell. That is where all of the trouble lies. Gururaj Ananda Yogi.

Spring & Autumn 2023 retreats. Feedback from attendees below:
We have conducted mindfulness sessions in London for corporate businesses and at local secondary schools, for teachers, employees and students. These sessions have included relaxation techniques and an understanding of how the mind works. Everyone was taught the square breathing technique that is effective and accessible anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Many people from these sessions went on to learn how to meditate.
